Firefighters spent an hour on Sunday night controlling a fire on a truck carrying beer malt.

The fire burned for close to an hour causing $120,000 of damage.

Firefighters were called to the fire near Gull Myalup following a triple zero call just after 8pm.

A seized tyre bearing had caused a tyre on the truck to burst and catch on fire at the intersection of Forrest Highway and Taranto Road.

The fire then spread to the beer malt being transported in the truck's trailer.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and extinguished the fire an hour later.
