Boomers bound into final
Eaton qualified for its fourth consecutive SWFL pre-season grand final, and will play Augusta-Margaret River in Saturday’s decider, after both teams went through their round-robin games undefeated at the weekend.
Playing shortened games, the Boomers trounced South Bunbury by 45 points before downing reigning premiers Busselton 6.5 (41) to 4.3 (27) on Saturday at Payne Park.
Meanwhile, the Hawks were impressive in their 49-point thumping of the Harvey Bulls and a 6.10 (46) to 3.0 (18) victory over Donnybrook at VC Mitchell Park.
Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault and Bunbury also made it through their hitouts undefeated, but missed the grand final on percentage.
The pre-season decider, in which $2000 in prizemoney will be up for grabs, will bouncedown at 3.30pm at Brunswick Oval this Saturday.
The game will be a curtain raiser to the Fev Cup clash between the Lions and Busselton featuring con-troversial AFL sharpshooter Brendan Fevola.
Eaton is the defending pre-season champions and has won two of the past three titles.
Last year’s SWFL grand finalists Collie and Busselton were both winless on Saturday, as were the Tigers and Bulls.
Donnybrook and Carey Park each registered a victory in the carnival with games of two 25-minute halves and no time on.
Jace Cormack was a standout for Eaton, booting five goals, including four against the Magpies.
After crossing from Busselton in the off-season, SWFL leading goalkicker Leigh Kelly booted one major in the Boomers’ triumph over South Bunbury.
Returning Hawks spearhead Tim Noakes kicked two goals in his team’s big win over Donnybrook.
It wasn’t all bad news for the Dons, who showed they will be no pushover this season after a 7.5 (47) to 4.6 (30) victory over Harvey in which returning centre half-forward Jeff Smith kicked two goals.
