If you can listen to rising Perth sensation Brow Horn Orchestra and resist the urge to unleash moves that would make Elvis’ gyrations look like amateur hour, you could very well be a mannequin.

Combining brass and beats to create a unique and infectious sound, the WAMi-award-winning group’s big sound and energetic shows are unstoppable party starters.

Bringing the party to Bunbury for the first time this Thursday, the Triple J Unearthed Artists are playing at the Prince of Wales Hotel this Thursday night where they are hoping to wow the audience with a unique display of brass and beats which group singer and songwriter Nick Owen said will be geared to get feet moving.

‘‘We find it hard to play shows where people don’t dance because we really feed off audiences and that vibe of happiness, that’s how we perform,’’ he said.

‘‘If an audience gives to us, then we can give a lot more.’’

Boasting a stage-crowding nine members, the group have a lot to give, and it all started busking in Fremantle with a battery-powered keyboard and wearing Hawaiian shirts.

‘‘From there it got a bit out of hand really, we got a thirst for adding members, and at one stage

played with about 20 people,’’ Owen said.

But rather than making group politics more complicated, Owen said having many members made for creative power.

‘‘The great thing about the band is we’ve got all these different musicians who are all wonderful because they’re from different backgrounds and have different inspirations,’’ he said.

‘‘We have people who really dig a lot of Motown and soul, myself included, and then we’ve got people

from all-electronic backgrounds and hip-hop backgrounds.

‘‘So I think that’s just the fun part of it, that we can bring all these folk and jazz and gypsy and electronic perspectives and then combine them.’’

The Brow Horn Orchestra will also play the Bridgetown Blues festival this weekend.
