Bulldogs defeat gallant Bulls

MITCHELL WOODCOCKBunbury Herald

A strong second half helped the Bunbury Bulldogs defeat a gallant Harvey Bulls by 59 points at Harvey Recreation Ground on Sunday.

Forward Jordan Adamson-Holmes kicked five second half goals in wet conditions to make sure Bunbury remain undefeated this season, winning 17.6 (108) to 7.7 (49).

The game was a tale of two halves, with the Bulls opening the day with the first two goals and remaining competitive throughout the first two quarters due to their high pressure around the contests.

With Bunbury only able to kick six first half goals it looked like Harvey could keep the game to a respectable margin, with the Bulls only trailing by 19 points at half-time.

Former West Perth small forward Anthony Saylor lined up for the Bulls in a surprise move and provided plenty of spark through the midfield and up forward kicking two goals and using the ball well in the tough conditions.

Bunbury’s three towers up forward proved to be great targets for the Bulldogs all day with Adamson-Holmes, Marc Re and Aiden Parker combining for nine goals over the four quarters.

Adamson-Holmes was the star of the day, with the former Subiaco player starting on the wing and playing through the midfield and high half forward for the first half, tackling and providing a contest for his midfielders to kick to.

He was moved deep forward half way through the third quarter when a structural change was made due to an injury to ruckman Jacob Williams which forced Parker to ruck the rest of the match.

Bunbury captain Jesse Gribble was dominant through the midfield, winning many clearances and kicking four quality goals in a four-quarter effort.

Bunbury have some injury worries heading into next weekend’s blockbuster game against Busselton, with ruckman Williams unlikely to play due to a groin injury sustained in the third quarter and Corey McGuire coming off in the second quarter with what looked like a back injury after kicking an important running goal.

Harvey will take some confidence out of Sunday’s game and hope to get their second win of the year when they take on the Eaton Boomers at Glen Huon Reserve.
