Bulldogs maintain winning form

MITCHELL WOODCOCKBunbury Herald

Bunbury has continued its perfect start to the season, downing a fighting Carey Park by 38 points in the Nani Family Cup on Sunday.

Powerful full forward Marc Re kicked another five goals to take his season tally to 19 and lead the Bulldogs to a hard fought win over the Panthers, taking the game 14.10 (94) to 8.8 (56).

Both teams were inaccurate in the first half with majors hard to come by, Bunbury wasting a number of shots in front of goal which could have seen them leading by much more than the 20 point half time margin.

Carey Park could only manage one goal in the first half and looked out of its depth against a harder running Bulldog side that looked determined to continue its winning start to the season.

Brayden Lawler was on fire for the Panthers the whole game, extracting a number of clearances and pushing Carey Park forward through accurate kicks on several occasions.

Panther ruckman Michael Robinson made sure a number of forward thrusts by the Bulldogs were snuffed out throughout the day and won the ruck battle comfortably over Jacob Williams.

The second half started a lot better for Carey Park, with a number of forward entries resulting in shots on goal, but captain Mathew Martin failed to convert his set shots, kicking an inaccurate 2.3 for the day.

This proved costly as Bunbury quickly swung the momentum back their way and kicked ten goals to seven in the second half as the game opened up.

Bunbury halfback Codey Hay was solid all day of the Dogs, while the work rate of forward Jordan Adamson-Holmes and efficiency of Re proved too much for the Panthers undermanned defence.

Former Subiaco captain Aiden Parker was well held all day, with the half forward eventually moved into the ruck to get into the game but finishing with just one goal.

For the Panthers, Lawler and Robinson were the shining lights while Rodney Jetta returned from Swan Districts duties to kick three for the visitors.
