Bunbury events get funding
A host of Bunbury events in 2013 have been boosted by funding from the South West Development Commission.
Almost 50 events in the South West, including festivals, sporting contests and conferences, will receive financial support through the State Government agency’s South West events program.
Commission board acting chairman Ian Stubbs said the grants would take pressure off organisations sourcing money to stage events in the new year.
Included in the program is the Bunbury Horse and Country Music Show, Bunbury Agricultural Society, Viva Bunbury and Bunbury Multicultural Group events, among others.
“A lot of work goes into organising events, so hopefully this funding will allow the people behind them to rest a little easier over the holiday period,” he said.
“Many of the events we sponsor are run by volunteers and we know from the feedback we’ve received that our funding assistance is appreciated by recipients.”
Mr Stubbs said events helped to create vibrant communities throughout the region.
“Events are important to the South West – by attracting visitors to our cities and towns, bolstering the economies of the places they are held in and adding to the social fabric of local communities,” he said.
“We are thrilled to provide support to organisations to host events through our program.”
The grants, which range from $1000 to $4000, will assist recipients to cover costs associated with staging events.”
Mr Stubbs said the South West Events Program was one way the Commission supported events and helped make the region an betterplace to live, work and invest.
