Bunbury sea scouts prepared for jumbo sale

Fiona HindsBunbury Herald

Reflecting on her first 10 years as a 2nd Bunbury Sea Scouts leader, Rosina Mogg is both excited and worried.

Mrs Mogg, known by her Scouts and fellow leaders as “Sea Star”, is preparing for her third Australian Scout Jamboree, a triennial two-week national camp, and is helping to sort through donations for the group’s annual fundraiser, the Jumbo Jambo Jumble Sale.

“Being one part of the scouts has been a life-changing experience, ” she said.

“I have been to two national and one international jamboree, and I’m very excited about the next one in 2016 which is being held in New South Wales.

But Mrs Mogg is also worried about the future of scouting in Bunbury.

“It isn’t that there are not enough kids to make our Scout troops work, it’s that we don’t have enough adult leaders.”

Newly-appointed president of the Scouts’ Parent Support Committee, Jane White, agrees.

“As a committee, we work in the background to support our fully-trained, uniformed leaders, ” she said. “But we need more parents and interested adults to come forward to lead our Scout group into the future.”

She urged anyone who was interested in finding out more about scouting to come along to the Jumble Sale at the Scout Hall in Queens Gardens, Bunbury, between 8am and 1pm on Saturday.
