Can they dig it? Yes, they can!

Those walking past the Five Mile Brook ocean drain near Hayward Street recently would have seen a channel being dug by Bunbury City Council.

City of Bunbury director of works and services Phil Harris said the brook’s ocean outfall was cleaned out several times a year to ensure it flowed during rainfall.

“The water in the brook will not drain naturally,” he said.

“We would need to run the scour pump for extended times.

“If during an early winter storm we lose power the capacity to run the pump is lost.”
