Captain's tornado blasts Senators

Ty Harrelson produced a blistering performance to lift the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers to a crucial eight-point away victory over Stirling on Saturday night.

Harrelson finished the game with 39 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists to spark the Slammers in their hard-fought win.

His hot-handed evening included six three-point bombs.

The 117-109 triumph keeps the South West team in touch with the top eight at the halfway mark of the home and away season.

The Slammers got off to a fast start at the Warwick Leisure Centre and held a 10-point quarter time lead.

Senators’ duo Jordan Wild (34 points, 15 rebounds) and Cory Cooperwood (28 points, 11 rebounds) lifted their team, which trailed by just four points at the final change.

But the Slammers held on with Jay Warren (27 points, seven assists), Clive Weeden (20 points, nine rebounds), Wade Hitchcock (13 points) and Trent Worthington (11 points, 11 rebounds), all prominent.

The Slammers are in a play-off log jam, with only percentage keeping them out of the top eight.

This weekend they face two tough contests against league leaders Lakeside (away) on Friday night before a return clash against fourth-placed Wanneroo on Saturday evening at the Eaton Recreation Centre.

Meanwhile, missing all of its imports, the South West Slammers women’s team crashed to a 81-67 defeat to Stirling.

Shelby Davison hit 21 points and brought down nine rebounds to be the Slammers’ best in the loss.

The Slammers trailed by 20 points at half-time, and despite winning the third term 28-16, could not complete the comeback.
