Car wrecks oldest church

Police are calling for witnesses to come forward after a car crashed into the front of an Australind church.

The male driver crashed his car into St Nicholas Anglican Church on Paris Road around 11pm on Tuesday.

The church was built in 1840, and is the oldest church in WA.

Sgt Brett Cassidy said the driver of the vehicle had not yet been charged and investigations into the cause of the accident were underway.

Sgt Cassidy said anyone who witnessed the accident should call Australind Police Station on 9797 0222.
