Carey Park Primary School art project bolstered by latest round of State Government funding

A Bunbury primary school is set to be injected with culture and colour thanks to the latest round of arts funding from the State Government.

Announced last Tuesday, Carey Park Primary School is one of 16 organisations across the State to receive a share in $745,562 from the McGowan Government’s Arts 15k-plus grant program.

The chosen projects span various artforms including dance, circus, writing and visual arts — with the Arts 15k-plus program allowing artists to work on bigger projects across the State.

The Bunbury school was awarded $24,710 to go towards the creation of indigenous mural by students, Noongar elders and school support staff.

The mural will tell the story of the Wardandi seasons and will also be incorporated into a bilingual picture book.

Cultural and Arts Minister David Templeman said he was pleased to support a variety of projects across the State.

“I am delighted to see such a diverse range of exciting new projects being supported by the Arts 15-k plus funding,” he said.

“The arts sector has seen such a raft of challenges over the past few years, and these grants programs are so important in supporting local artists.

“We know the impact that arts and culture have through increasing connection in communities, and I encourage people to get involved and see the outcomes of these projects where they can.”

Other regional projects also receiving funding include Albany’s Vancouver Arts Centre and Goolarri Media Enterprises in Broome.
