Bowel cancer is Australia’s biggest cancer killer behind lung cancer.

Currently one in 12 Australians will develop the cancer before they turn 85.

Mr Egan lost five friends to the cancer aged between late 20s to their 40s.

‘‘This cancer can go quite undetected for a long time,’’ he said.

‘‘Prevention is better than cure.’’

This month the Bunbury-Leschenault Rotary Club is promoting the 2012 May Bowelscan Month.

Mr Egan said he hoped the promotion wouldencourage people to pickup a sampling kit to check for the cancer.

‘‘Our objective is to increase the awareness of bowel cancer and to start the process of diagnosis,’’ he said.

‘‘Bowel cancer is one of the major cancer killers.

‘‘It’s about catching cancer before it becomes a major problem.’’
