CHOGM promotion for Bunbury

Bunbury Herald

Bunbury will be promoted as ‘‘Refreshingly Close’’when the city’s banner is hung up in Perth’s St George’s Terrace for the Banners in the Terrace exhibition and competition during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in October.

The idea is the city’s new marketing position statement and emphasises how easy it is to get to Bunbury from Perth now that the Forrest Highway is open.

Nannup banner artist Chris Williamson hand painted the 3.4m by 1.5m banner and said he wanted to convey the ideas of fresh water and a breezy afternoon.

The banner shows a view of the city from the boat ramp near the Bunbury Power Boat Club on the banks of the Leschenault Inlet.

Chairman of the promotions committee and Bunbury city councillor Stephen Craddock said the banner would encapsulate Bunbury’s accessibility for the Perth market.

The banner will be hung in St George’s Terrace on the median strip light poles during CHOGM, joining other banners from local governments attending the meeting.

Two years ago Mr Williamson’s banner which promoted the city’s urban lifestyle was the overall winner of the Banners in the Terrace competition.
