Collapse won't delay station
The collapse of the developer of the proposed site for the new $6 million ‘‘career’’ fire station to be built in Australind will not delay its arrival, according the Fire and Emergency Services Authority.
Although the developer of the proposed site is under receivership and the receiver is yet to determine if the development will continue, FESA said the project was ‘‘still on track’’ and due to be completed by June 30, 2012.
A FESA spokeswoman said it was committed to delivering the project on time and was looking at alternative sites should the development not proceed or if significant delays were expected.
The date when construction will begin has not been given and Opposition spokeswoman for Emergency Services Margaret Quirk said the government was running out of time.
‘‘The South West is a rapidly expanding area and the Bunbury fire station is already facing an increased demand for its services,’’ she said.
‘‘The Barnett Government must locate a new site so construction of the station can start immediately.’’
