Collie couple collect $1.25m

CLARE NEGUSBunbury Herald

A newly married couple from Collie became millionaires over the weekend after winning division one in Saturday night’s Lotterywest $30 million Superdraw.

The young couple will kick start the new financial year $1,250,000 richer after buying their winning ticket at Reuben's News in Collie.

The pair will share their division one winnings with another Lotto player who, as of yesterday, was yet to claim their prize.

The owner of Reuben's News, Peter Reuben said people had been rushing to check their tickets on Sunday until the lucky couple came into the newsagency.

``They didn’t know they had won when they came back to have it checked,’’ Mr Reuben said.

``It came up with ``Contact Lotteries’’, we took it out the back and checked and found the six numbers.

``They were incredibly excited, over the moon, they were very very happy.’’

The win follows two division one tickets sold at Reuben's News last year.

One ticket was worth $666,666 in a February draw, and then a $570,000 ticket only two weeks later in a March draw.

Mr Reuben said people should buy tickets for this weekend’s lotto draw from the Australind newsagency because the last time there was a big win in Colle, Australind followed the next week, before another win in Collie.

``It is the same scenario, we work on that pattern,’’ he said.

More than 293,000 other West Australians will share in prizes from the Superdraw's other divisions, including 40 people set to scoop a division two prize worth just over $8,000.

Lotterywest said the winners are not the only ones to benefit from the draw with an estimated $5.5 million raised to support the WA community including health, sports, the arts and thousands of charitable and community organisations.

This year the Shire of Collie benefited from a $65,000 Lotterywest grant for playground equipment at Collie's Roche Park.
