Collie Eagles lock in sixth place on SWFL ladder after key forwards fire in imposing victory over Donnybrook

With their finals hopes done and dusted, Collie have produced a barnstorming 98-point win over a hapless Donnybrook on Sunday to ensure they finish sixth. The 19.11 (125) to 3.9 (27) victory was a masterclass in forward craft from the Eagles talls, with Cam Davidson, swingman Mat Michael and Peel Thunder’s Jackson Broadbent combining for 12 goals. The Eagles welcomed back Matthew Hunt, who missed the last two games, and midfield leader Kyle Shanahan for the clash as well as Broadbent, who came back to Collie for Peel’s bye, having made his league debut for the WAFL club a fortnight ago. Davidson kicked five, sparking his team during what was a monstrous nine-goal second term to put the game away by half-time. It was Davidson’s biggest goal haul of the season, having kicked four goals in a game twice since moving back to the club from East Fremantle midway through the season. Eagles legend Michael, who started his career as a forward before becoming an impenetrable defender, was used in the front half again this week and kicked four goals. Their 56-point half-time lead continued to grow in the third term as the Dons were held goalless, and another four goals in the final term pushed the margin out to almost 100 points. Hunt chipped in with two goals, while Broadbent kicked three in his second league game at the club.
