Council offers sterilisation vouchers
Pet owners in the Shire of Dardanup have the opportunity to help meet the costs of sterilising their cats with vouchers being given out by the council.
The Cat Act 2011 came into effect in November and requires owners of cats older than six months to have their pets sterilised, or face a fine.
Funding was allocated by the Department of Local Government and Communities to provide cat sterilisation vouchers to residents and there are just a few left.
The vouchers are for residents living in the Shire of Dardanup only and are valued at $60 for one cat or $90 for two or more cats, with only one voucher available for each household.
The Cat Act requires the identification, registration and sterilisation of domestic cats.
The new laws are aimed at better management of the unwanted impact of cats on the environment.
