Courtney's creativity commended

A year 10 Newton Moore Senior High School student was one of just 10 winners in a recent Statewide story-writing competition.

Courtney Ugle, 14, received a $100 Rebel Sport voucher after entering a competition run by the WA Department of Health, aiming to promote healthy decision making about sexual health and relationships.

Courtney’s winning story encouraged young people to make informed choices about their health instead of relyingon misconceptions drawnfrom friends.

Courtney’s English teacher JudyWeston said she was‘‘very proud of the achievement of this ery capable and mature young lady’’.

Courtney, a student of the Newton Moore Girls Academy for Aboriginal girls and the school’s Follow the Dream after school program for indigenous students, said she was pleased to be chosen as a winner, but did not expect the accolade.

‘‘I was so surprised, because I was only one of 10 in the whole State,’’ she said.
