Crane will boost lifting capacity

MITCHELL WOODCOCKBunbury Herald

Key Bunbury Port company Qube has capitalised on an opportunity to increase productivity, adding a second Liebherr Mobile Harbour Crane to its operations.

The second MHC adds a heavy lift capability to the port, and will attract additional project cargoes to be routed directly via Bunbury.

The crane came down from Fremantle on Thursday, where it was unloaded in the Bunbury Port's Inner Harbour.

"It is a sign of our confidence in the direction the port is taking, our customers businesses and our people's futures," said Qube Bulk director Todd Emmert.

The increase in available port capacity the second MHC provides, allows Qube's transport fleet, depots, storage and maintenance facilities to reduce supply chain costs of getting materials from mine to market and opens the door for smaller exporters.

Qube shift manager Joe Versace said the operation started at 7am and didn't finish until 10.30pm.

"It is a very delicate process, the crane is over 290 tonne," he said.

"It will increase productivity for our clients."
