Curry hot as city gets taste of India

The best of Indian culture was on show at the second annual Festival of India at the South West Italian Club on Saturday.

Hundreds of people attended the event organised by the South West Indian Group to promote Indian culture and bring the Bunbury community together.

Most interest was at the cooking demonstration as chefs gave hints and tips to cooking the best curry. Those who watched were later treated to a taste when the curry was finished.

There was something for everyone with activities and displays located in other parts of the building.

These included yoga and meditation lessons, demonstrations on how to wear a sari and Bollywood dancing lessons.

Indian Consul General to WA, Subbarayudu Mandarapu, and Bunbury MLA John Castrilli attended the event.

Group member Dr Karthik Natarajan said the feedback about the event was positive.

“People thoroughly enjoyed what was on offer, ” he said. “There was a lot of involvement from the whole the community.”

Dr Natarajan said the group wanted hold the event again next year.
