Dalyellup Surf Life Saving Club is celebrating breakthrough success at the recent WA Country Championships after returning to the South West with its first ever gold medals from the event.

Established in 2001, the Dalyellup Club had never topped the podium at the annual WA Surf Life Saving Country Championships but recorded two victories earlier this month.

Junior girls Tiani Knox, Kara Lawlor, Kahlia Nash and Lucy Parslow scored the club’s first gold medal in the all age beach relay before Kahlia backed up with a second gold in the Under-13 beach sprint.

Tiani added a silver medal in the Under-11 beach flags and a bronze in the Under-11 beach sprint to complete the club’s best ever individual performance.

Club president Jenaya Bell said she was proud to see the junior competitors returning with medals.

“We’re a small club but we were very vocal on the beach up there in Perth, ” she said.

“Seeing these guys have success at a high level means that the club is growing and there is a lot of positivity behind that and from here we can only continue to improve.”
