Decrease in thefts from cars

Bunbury Herald

Police registered a big drop in the number of thefts from cars last week, attributing it to awareness and recent charges being laid.

Last week, there were only 10 reported cases of thefts from cars, with most of those occurring in South Bunbury.

Sen. Sgt Peter Jenal said this was a decrease on the recent trend of thefts from cars.

‘‘We’ve been hearing that people can’t afford to replace a broken window, so they don’t lock their car,’’ he said.

‘‘But then, people are still leaving wallets and laptops on seats.’’

Sen. Sgt Jenal urged people to make sure they have locked their cars and secured belongings inside.

Police have recently charged eight people in relation to thefts from vehicles.

Last month 160 cars were broken into over two nights.
