Deep River heads for The Prince

Mundaring boys Deep River Collective will jump in their van and head to Bunbury this Saturday night to play at the Prince of Wales Hotel.

The Prince of Wales Hotel will turn back time this month as psychedelic-groovers Deep River Collective bring their 60s-inspired tunes to Bunbury.

The four-piece from the Perth hills will be playing their first headline show in Bunbury this Saturday but the band is no stranger to our city, according to drummer Sean Thomas.

He said the band has hit the Bunbury streets and has earned some extra money busking in the port city.

Thomas revealed the band underwent a name change and were formally known as Laced Affair.

‘‘When we first started our band the name wasn’t very important to us,’’ he said.

‘‘Laced Affair didn’t really have any relevance to us anymore.’’

The members then looked at what they all had in common — camping, fishing and surfing.

‘‘We just made a list of all the rivers we’ve camped at,’’ he said ‘‘Deep River sounded the nicest.’’

They released their first EP Lost Control Long Ago in November last year under their new name.

Deep River Collective recorded the sampler in a small studio in Fremantle and Thomas said the band would play songs from their EP when they visit Bunbury.

Thomas said the gig would have a ‘‘chilled out vibe’’and said that anyone who loved groove psychedelic should come along.

He cited bands such as Pink Floyd, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Jeff Buckley as influences.

Deep River Collective play at the Prince of Wales Hotel on Saturday with support acts Sugarpuss and the Witness kicking off the show from 8pm.
