Final adjustments are being made to the Mt Lennard transmitter outside of Brunswick which will give Greater Bunbury residents access to 16 new channels, putting the region in line with the metropolitan area.
Excited about the switch is sports announcer and radio host Daniel Leachwhosaid it was long overdue.
‘‘A lot of big sporting events we have missed because we did not have digital TV,’’ he said.
‘‘It is a shame because regional WA has missed out for far too long.’’
Mr Leach said he would watch nearly 25 hours of sport a week and digital TV would give viewers more options.
‘‘ Regional WA now has a chance to watch the Formula 1, the Wildcats and the swimming championships,’’ he said.
Proprietor of Harvey Norman Bunbury Wayne Johnson said he would have the shop stocked and ready for the conversion.
‘‘We are getting ready to sell set-top boxes as a lot of people still aren’t digital ready,’’ he said.
The digital signal would reach from Bunbury to Dunsborough in the south, Donnybrook to the east and Waroona to the north.
People who already have a digital television are advised to retune their TV this Thursday or for more information about the switch, contact 1800 201 013 or www.digitalready.gov.au/myswitch.
