A snake removalist has warned Bunbury could see more venomous dugites this summer.

Roo Rescue owner Kim Grant said she had already removed eight dugites from homes in Bunbury, Gelorup, Australind and Eaton this month.

This compares to the 10 that were caught last summer.

Ms Grant says the snakes may have had a double breeding season after a dry and warm winter was followed by six weeks of wet weather.

“We are getting juveniles (snakes) in November when they shouldn’t be due until next year,” she said.

“The dugites are likely to be looking to mate and will be defensive.”

Ms Grant said the best way to react to the snake was to stand still and wait for it to move away.

Water bowls left outside for pets also attract snakes.

The Department of Parks and Wildlife last week released a warning about an increase in snakes because of the warmer weather.

Roo Rescue is a voluntary organisation which needs more donations. For more information contact Ms Grant on 0417 992 492.
