Evans on song for Capel

GEORGE GOODWINBunbury Herald

Capel skipper Jacob Evans scored a swashbuckling 68 off 43 balls before taking 4-11, including a hat-trick, to lead his team to a thumping triumph over Leschenault on Saturday.

Put in to bat at Leschenault, Crusaders openers Tim Hutcheson (71) and Tyler Robertson (92) gave their side a superb start before Evans tore the bowling apart with his classy knock to lift the visitors to 3-259.

Then English import Danny Cohen produced an accurate bag of 5-22 as the Green Caps’ top order crumbled.

The first four Green Caps tallied just 10 runs between them as Cohen ripped into them, finishing with the first five wickets while rookie Capel captain Evans added a hat-trick to his half century as Leschenault folded for 74 runs off 25 overs.

Colts gifted Harvey-Benger a whopping 41 sundries but still eased to a four-wicket win at the Bunbury Recreation Ground.

But young guns Luke Morien, Cruize Ciallella and Clayton Caltsounis used their talents to take the team to victory.

Seamer Josh Topliss took this confidence with him and ripped out Harvey-Benger openers Jones and Jarred Maughan before reliable Darren Bozanich and in-form former skipper Scott Fowler set the Bulls back on course with a healthy third wicket stand of 95.

But with them both falling to left-armer Ciallella in quick succession the Bulls, who lost their next four wickets for nine runs, managed just 8-164.

Skipper Jones dismissed the Colts’ top-order before Morien and Ciallella stopped the home side’s batting rot with an 83-run stand to which Dion Attard and a swashbuckling Caltsounis finished the issue with a big six to carry Colts to victory.

In the final match of the round Collie notched a two-wicket victory over Hay Park.
