Bunbury's Leschenault Inlet foreshore was an extraordinary sight on Saturday night as people with leukaemia, their family members, friends and supporters raised money for research.

The annual event is held to help with research for the Leukaemia Foundation and has people light the night with lanterns representing their connection to the cancer.

The 1.2km walk took place just after dusk, creating a colourful sight along the foreshore for the residents of Bunbury.

Bunbury Light the Night organiser Sandra Lankester said considering the cold weather, she was happy with the turnout.

“We have about 60 or so people there who braved the weather,” she said.

“It was lovely walking along that waterfront – it was a beautiful sight with all the lights going.

“We have raised about $8000, we are hoping for $10,000.”

Organisers of the nationwide event aim to raise $1.25 million for projects in hospitals and research facilities.
