Now in its second year, the event included eight activity zones in a marquee village and hands-on activities for kids, including cooking workshops, science exhibits, and a chance to try Twyping — a mash up of Twitter and typewriters.

There were also high-energy performances from the Young Talent Time cast, the Cinefest Oz Kidsfest film festival and a milking station.

An under-five’s zone — which included a sand pit and a reading nook with storytelling sessions from Year of Reading ambassador and award-winning children’s author Sally Murphy — ensured even the youngest attendees were entertained.

Deputy Mayor Stephen Craddock said the support of more than 100 volunteers made the Kidsfest a great event.

‘‘One of the best aspects of Kidsfest is the way it draws the community together to make the event happen,’’ Mr Craddock said.

The event wasmoved from its previous location at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre due to renovations at the site.

The new, bigger site at Bunbury Recreation Ground was transformed with a circus tent to provide fun regardless of the weather.

The Bunbury Kidsfest is organised by the City of Bunbury and supported by Eventcorp’s Regional Events Scheme.
