Foodbank needs more fruit
After an appeal for fresh fruit in the media recently, Foodbank Bunbury received only a trickle of donations.
The few apples and pears the welfare organisation received is not enough, according to Foodbank Bunbury volunteer Ray Jordan.
He said fresh fruit was still needed for Foodbank’s School Breakfast program, which gave food to 29 schools in the South West.
‘‘We got a small amount; we got two crates of fruit,’’ Mr Jordan said.
The charity organisation also received a donation of cauliflower and pumpkin from Donnybrook and Manjimup, but the fruit donation would be unlikely to see out the week with Mandurah’s Foodbank also desperate for fruit.
‘‘Mind you we’re lucky the school holidays are coming up so it might give us some time to stock up,’’ Mr Jordan said.
Mr Jordan said Foodbank’s truck drivers could collect fruit donations from anywhere in the South West and could provide their own crates.
A tax deductable receipt would be given to donors.
Donations can be made by contacting Mr Jordan on 0408 096 642.
