Football: Boomers win as Bulls crumble
Eaton Boomers kept their premiership campaign on track with a convincing 64 point victory over Harvey Bulls at the Harvey Recreation Ground on Saturday.
Eaton overcame a slow start and some wayward goal kicking to win 16.12 (108) to 5.4 (34). Dark clouds gathered over Harvey before the game in what would prove an omen of things to come for the Bulls.
Things started well for the home side with Greg Sanders kicking his seventh goal of the year within minutes of the opening bounce and Matt Jones adding a second major from the restart.
But Harvey fell apart in the second quarter as the Boomers’ forwards began to find some space and kicked the first three goals of the term.
Former Bull William Barnes rubbed salt in to his old club‘s wounds earning two 50m penalties and nailing the subsequent kick to send the Boomers in to the half-time break ahead by 23 points.
Harvey were outscored 10- goals-to-two in the second half as Eaton took control. Boomers co-captain Chris Atthowe stamped his authority to finish with three goals.
Leigh Kelly, Jace Cormack and Cody Miller kicked two a piece and Will Oelsnik, Kane Bloxsidge and Gino Catalano turned in solid performances.
Grieves, Mason Hill and Kieren Germs were the Bulls’ best.
