Football: Eaton cruise to thumping win

Six goals to Jacob Ferrier and five to Jace Cormack led the Eaton Boomers to their sixth straight triumph, a 22.9 (141) to 4.4 (28) trouncing of Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault at Brunswick Oval on Sunday.

The 113-point demolition was the biggest winning margin of the Boomers unbeaten start to the season.

The Boomers were without a raft of key players as Steve Jas, Jye Cormack, Rohan Lilly and Chris Atthowe were all rested for the contest.

HBL welcomed Ash Thornton back on a permit as Peel Thunder had the bye in the WAFL.

The Bunbury Herald understands the former AFL listed player will be cleared to the Lions within a fortnight.

The Boomers midfielders dominated with Josh Bowe, Michael Battaglia, Blake Piggot and Cormack all standouts.

Cormack and Bowe both spent time in the forward 50, finishing with five and four goals respectively.

Young Boomer Karl Collard produced a dazzling run from the wing in the third term, beating five Lions defenders before slotting his spectacular effort – one of his three goals.

Key forward Ferrier finished with six majors, taking his season tally to 21 to sit second on the goalkicking leaderboard.

HBL defender Jordan McCormack was solid for the Lions in defence, keeping Boomers recruit Leigh Kelly to 1.2. Eaton’s towering ruckman Josh Branchi did some good things around the ground before booting a 50 metre bomb late in the final term to push the margin beyond 100 points.

HBL were without their top four in their 2012 best and fairest count with captain Dave Newman (calf), John Klumpp (knee), Scott Delmenico (suspended) and Lukas Teague (wrist) all missing.

Travis Obal and Logan Hughes provided some run and attacking drives for the Lions in an otherwise disappointing day at Brunswick Oval.
