Football: Magpies back in top five

JORDAN GERRANSBunbury Herald

Busselton jumped back into the top five with an 11-point win over South Bunbury at Sir Stewart Bovell Park on Sunday.

The Magpies’ midfield was the difference with Damien Lee, Dan McGinlay, Jordan Eastwell and Jackson Arbon all running riot in the 12.6 (78) to 10.7 (67) triumph.

Souths hadn’t led all day until Guy Piggott’s fourth goal midway through the last quarter edged them in front, but goals to Magpies Adam Dehring and Lance Lucas ended the visitors’ hopes.

The game was won in the first quarter for the reigning premiers as they kept South Bunbury scoreless and banged on four goals of their own.

South Bunbury struggled to win a clearance as Eastwell and Lee shone in the centre.

Dehring and Lee had two goals each in the first half, both finishing with three for the game as the Magpies were 30 points up at the long break.

But South Bunbury kicked into gear, booting six unanswered goals either side of the final change to bring the game back to life.

Piggott played a major role in the turnaround, kicking three majors and having a hand in three more.

The Tigers had all the momentum when they hit the front in the final term, but Busselton stood up to record its fourth win.

Captain Matt Giacci, Ben Field and Tyson Lee all performed well for Souths.
