Football: President continues recovery

RHYS DICKINSONBunbury Herald

Kevin Lynn’s two-decade reign as president of the Plunkett Homes South West Football League has been put on hold as he battles a serious illness.

Lynn, 72, was yesterday in an unwell but stable condition in Fremantle Hospital after suffering an aortic aneurism in Bunbury on Friday evening.

Senior vice-president Stan Liaros will take over as interim president. Lynn had emergency surgery at Bunbury Hospital and was later flown to Perth to continue his treatment in Fremantle Hospital’s intensive care unit.

The news has stunned the region’s football community, which Lynn has towered over since he swept to power in 1994.

Despite the seriousness of the illness Lynn’s wife Jill said he was in a “good position” yesterday.

“But there’s a long way ahead,” she said.

“We had a miracle set of circumstances and the hospital teams have been remarkable.

“So many people have called and supported us. It’s outstanding.”

SWFL general manager John Vidos said the football community was thinking of Lynn.

“Kevin has put so much into football and he is very well liked in the community,” Vidos said.
