Football: Souths back on winners' list

DARREL COCKRAMBunbury Herald

South Bunbury continued its resurgence on Sunday, downing an undermanned Harvey-Brunswick- Leschenault by 57 points at Hands Oval.

Tyson Lee led the way up forward with his strong marking while both Braden and Guy Piggott were busy as well to ensure the Tigers had plenty of scoring opportunities.

South Bunbury’s defence was also solid with Ryan Smith strong at centre half-back and Matt Wilkinson and Kane Bumann impressive.

Daniel Kerr found enough of the ball to goal twice in the first half and keep the Lions in touch at half-time, trailing by 25 points.

The Tigers wrapped up the game in the third quarter, dominating the clearances in a six-goal-to one quarter.

Ryan Smith went downfield for a couple of goals and Lee also booted two majors.

Travis Obal, Scott Delmenico, Kerr and Aaron Murphy were all working hard for the Lions to stem the flow but the Tigers had strength around the ground.

The visitors stemmed the tide in the last term with Tyler Gleadell booting two majors while Piggott booted two for Souths – just reward for a solid game with a soccer-style sizzor kick in the square one for the highlights reel.
