Eaton take low-scoring win

It is said that rain is a good leveller in football, but wind is an even better one as evidenced in the Eaton Boomers' 25-point victory over Donnybrook at Glen Huon Reserve on Sunday.

There was no rain in the prestigious Peter Butcher Cup clash but a howling west north-westerly that impacted heavily on the game which eventually saw the Boomers win 5.12 (42) to 2.5 (17).

Hawks win thriller

Augusta-Margaret River 11.11 (77) d South Bunbury 11.6 (72)

Blustery conditions and a heavy ground could not take away from what turned out to be a thrilling contest, with Augusta-Margaret River causing a boilover to win by five points on Saturday night.

The Hawks opened strongly at Gloucester Park and were first to adjust to the conditions, often getting their hands on the ball first.

Magpies thrash Panthers

Busselton 21.11 (137) d Carey Park 7.10 (52)

Busselton sent Carey Park tumbling out of the top five and with the loss of nine percentage points after an 85-point thrashing at Kelly Park on Sunday.

That did not look possible two minutes into the game after the Panthers kicked with the aid of a strong breeze and Michael McMillan had two goals on the board.

HBL back in five

Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault 6.11 (47) d Collie Eagles 3.5 (23)

Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault moved back inside the South West Football League top five after a scrappy 24-point victory over the Collie Eagles on Sunday.

In damp and blustery conditions at the Collie Recreation Ground the Lions were pushed all afternoon by their plucky hosts, who mid-way through the final term looked as if they would overrun the reigning premiers.

Bulldogs in all-the-way win

Bunbury 7.9 (51) d Harvey Bulls 6.5 (41)

The Harvey Bulls’ finals hopes are all but dead after Bunbury ground out a scrappy 10-point win over the Bulls at Harvey Recreation Ground on Sunday afternoon.

A Jesse Gribble led Bulldogs held the lead throughout and eventually ran out 7.9 (51) to 6.5 (41) victors.
