Football: SWFL Round 4 Wrap Up

RILEY STUARTBunbury Herald

The Lions and Eagles produced impressive displays to break through for their first victories of the South West Football League season on Sunday.

Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault upset the previously undefeated-Augusta Margaret River 10.16 (76) to 9.9 (63) at Brunswick Oval.

The Lions started the final quarter with a 27-point advantage and were lucky to hold on as the Hawks wasted countless opportunities, kicking 2.5 in the last term.

Star recruit Llane Spaanderman was a notable omission from the Lions’ side but they welcomed Ashley Thornton for his first appearance for the club this year.

The former West Coast Eagles rookie played on permit.

Meanwhile, Collie Eagles tasted victory for the first time in 2013 after easing to a 68-point win over Harvey Bulls at Harvey.

Mat Michael kicked six goals, while Adam Bignall and Paul Lindsay were in good form for Collie in the 20.11 (131) to 9.9 (63) triumph.

The visitors were forced to negotiate the second half with 21 men after Talan Michael was reported and sent off for striking Harvey's Mason Hill just before half-time.

Greg Sanders was best for the Bulls, who sprung a surprise by fielding Swan Districts star Graham Jetta.

Sunday’s two fixtures were the first of a split round four.

Next weekend, Carey Park host Eaton, Bunbury take on Busselton at Payne Park and South Bunbury travel to play Donnybrook.
