Getting set for hockey

Bunbury Herald

Mouthguards, sticks and shinpads are being dusted off around the region as registration days loom for several junior hockey clubs.

Bunbury and Districts Hockey Association junior secretary Kerry Kerr is urging people not to miss out on the opportunity to play the fun and social sport this winter.

Clubs in the greater Bunbury area will start holding registration days next month.

“We’re always keen to get lots of kids involved, it’s a great sport, ” she said.

Kerr said the BDHA competitions generally catered for children from Year 2 up and had something for everyone.

“It’s an Olympic sport and we’ve got kids who have been achieving at an elite level and made State teams last year and are in development squads, ” she said.

“But it’s also about just being involved.

“We actively encourage kids to play with their mates bec- ause that’s what keeps you play- ing.”

Angus Fyfe said the sport was good because it got people outside.

Tegan Waller, 13, enjoyed the adrenalin rush from playing.

“I just like the energy you get when you play, ” she said.

“It’s a really good feeling.

“You feel like you can do anything.”
