A nine-year-old girl from Australind is still in a critical condition in Princess Margaret Hospital after she nearly drowned at the Dr Peter Topham Memorial Pool in Harvey on Saturday.

Waroona Police received a call about 7pm when the girl was pulled out of the pool, but it is not known how long she had been under the water.

Waroona Police Const. Julian Jennings, who went to the pool, said by the time he and a colleague arrived, people had already performed CPR and the girl had started breathing on her own.

Harvey St John Ambulance transported the girl to Harvey Hospital for stabilisation before she was flown by helicopter to Perth where she is in intensive care.

Harvey Amateur Swimming Club president Bryan Doust said the event at the pool where the incident occurred did not involve the club and was not a club-organised swim meet.
