Homemade weapons disgust police

TARI JEFFERSBunbury Herald

Police are disgusted by a small arsenal of homemade weapons they have found in a Carey Park house in the past month.

A search of the house on Friday morning revealed six homemade weapons, ranging from knives to claws stuck on a metal glove.

Bunbury Sgt Phil Nation said police had previously searched the house on March 21, finding five other homemade weapons, including a 1.5m spear-type weapon with a knife attached to the end.

“It is a concern to have these kinds of weapons in the community,” he said.

A 41-year-old woman has been charged with possessing a controlled weapon as a result of both searches.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with possessing a controlled weapon after the March discovery.

Sgt Nation said one of the weapons from Friday’s search resembled a gauntlet, with sharp attachments on the front and side.

There was also a double-bladed knife and several long, sharp weapons.

“It is an unusual find, it’s not often we find so many homemade weapons,” he said.

“You do get one here and there, but not to this extent.

“One was very Freddy Kruger — or Wolverine — and there were a couple that reminded you of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”
