A team of police officers, going by the name of Hot Fuzz, are turning their attention from fighting crime to fighting cancer.

Staff from Australind Police station are preparing for the 24-hour Relay for Life walk in November to raise money for Cancer Council.

Hot Fuzz captain Sen. Const. Steve Delane said the team was created last year by his colleagues after his wife battled breast cancer.

“It made it more personal for everyone, ” he said.

“These days you can hardly find anyone who hasn’t been affected by cancer.”

Last year the team was simply named Australind Police Station, but this year Sen. Const. Delane has extended the invitation to other emergency services.

He put the call out to officers from other stations and emergency services in the region to join Hot Fuzz.

“It would be great if we can get officers from Harvey and Bunbury, too, ” he said.

Sen. Const. Delane said Relay for Life was not only a great way to raise money for the Cancer Council, but also a good way for officers to connect with their community.

To donate to or sponsor the team, search for Hot Fuzz on the Relay for Life website, or visit the Australind Police.
