The In Town Centre was filled with festive cheer during its annual Christmas lunch last week.

Centre manager Leanne Gibbs said the day would not be possible without the continual support of volunteers.

‘‘Our volunteers are the backbone of the In Town Centre,’’ Ms Gibbs said.

‘‘We all work well as a team to run a really successful centre.’’

About 150 people sat down to a delicious lunch, with raffles and prizes keeping the crowd entertained throughout the afternoon.

A number of extra volunteers gave up their day to help out in the kitchen.

In Town Centre chairman David Bailey said the satisfaction of helping others made it all worth while.

‘‘Being able to offer some joy and cheer to these people at what might be a very difficult time for them,’’ Mr Bailey said.

‘‘I’d like to thank everybody who helped the In Town Centre achieve so much throughout the year.’’

In a busy Christmas period, the centre served an average of 50 meals per day to those in need.

The centre will reopen early in the New Year.
