International festival celebrates Spring
International acts from around the world are set to fill the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre with a variety of choral music this weekend.
The Perth-Bunbury International Spring Choral Festival is a three-day event where people who love music can celebrate all things choral.
Highlights of the festival will include performances by the Philharmonic Society of Selangor from Malaysia, the BAAO Children’s Choir from the Philippines and A Cappella West, a Sweet Adeline Top Chorus.
Choral association president Viviane Knight said there would be a variety of choral music to be heard.
‘‘Choral is singing and singing is for everybody,’’Ms Knight said.
‘‘People will enjoy hearing and seeing something with a difference.’’
Knight said there had been a shift from the traditional notion of choral music.
‘‘We like to promote music of today,’’ she said.
‘‘There will be an eclectic range of music.’’
Other choirs including community, school and contemporary groups will also take part in the event.
The Spring Choral Festival concerts start this Friday at the St Boniface Cathedral at 7.30pm.
The International Spring Choral Festival Concert will be at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Saturday at 7.15pm, while the Farewell Concert will be at the New Lyric Theatre on Sunday at 2pm.
