Kenita beats off hot competition
Perseverance paid off for Bunbury model Kenita Van Veen after she won the final of the Miss Summer Parade on Sunday at the Parade Hotel.
Mrs Van Veen was crowned 2015 Miss Summer Parade when she beat eight other women with Beth Watts finishing second and Bryony Gell making up the top three.
She said she was thrilled to win the competition after entering more than five times and finishing as a runner-up last year.
"I thought one of the new girls was going to take it out and I originally wasn't going to enter this year, I'm so glad that I entered," she said.
"It sounds silly but there is a lot of preparation that goes into it to get ready, I think for most of the girls it's a year round thing to prepare and you just get up there and rock it.
"The crowd were excellent, they got into it and it was a really great atmosphere."
Mrs Van Veen said there were a number of upcoming modelling competitions that she would consider entering.
"It is an addiction, it's such a thrilling feeling that you get from modelling," she said.
Classique Model Management director and Miss Summer Parade organiser Tamara Dimov said Mrs Van Veen's victory and the performances of some of the new contestants were highlights.
"Kenita just shone, it goes to show if you keep going then you'll win and it was great to have two new girls place second and third," she said.
"She's got great stage presence and a great overall package and that helped her win."
