Kyra's back in style at Bunbury

Trailblazing jockey Kyra Yuill returned to Bunbury Turf Club in style on Sunday, taking out the first Country Challenge heat (1410m) on $14 outsider Dangerously.

Prepared by her father Graham, Dangerously turned sixth but charged home to pip Grant Williams- trained gelding Monumental by a short head in the feature.

Phenomenal Anemone, from the stables of Brett Pope, was third in a nailbiting finish.

The meeting was Yuill’s first at her home track since suffering a horror fall in Perth in September.

The race was the first of six Country Challenge heats at regional turf clubs in the next fortnight.

Gallopers receive 15 points for a heat win, eight for second place and seven for third, with decreasing points for the rest of the field.

Horses must accumulate at least one point to be eligible for the final, which will be run at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse on December 15.

The challenge continues in Albany this Thursday, while points will also be up for grabs at Geraldton, Esperance, Pinjarra Park and Mt Barker.

Top hoop Patrick Carbery rode a treble at Sunday’s meeting.

Carbery won the United Crane Hire Excellence Within Reach Maiden (1410m) with three-year-old filly Handful of Dust ($3.40) for Oakford trainer Paul Tapper.

He went back-to-back for Tapper with four-year-old mare Astra Sky, who was paying a juicy $21 in the following race, the United Crane Hire Leaders In Their Field Maiden (1410m).

Carbery completed the treble with an all-the-way win on board the Simon Miller-trained Foxy Commander ($2.60f) in the last of the day, the United Crane Hire Collie Depot Handicap (1200m).

Ray Malpass-trained mare Snitchs made a statement with an impressive two-and-a-half-length triumph in the United Crane Hire 24/7 Maiden (1200m).

Snitchs, by Mcflirt from Don’t Tell Dinah, started a $12 chance from barrier one but eclipsed her more fancied rivals, breaking her maiden status at her seventh start.

Alex Hearn was in the saddle.

Other winners included Tranquilla Star, Fa’em and the Joe Byrne-trained Darci Time.
