Legend Gilchrist coming to town
One of cricket’s greatest players will visit Bunbury’s Sanctuary Golf Resort on February 18.
Adam Gilchrist, widely regarded as the finest wicketkeeper-batsman in the game’s long history, forged a lasting reputation as a true gentleman of the game with his famous “walk” policy.
He also formed some lasting friendships for whom favours are often forged.
And one such friendship is the bond between the great Gilchrist and his former Western Warriors teammate Murray Goodwin, with Gilchrist diverting a flight from South Africa in 2009 so he could talk at Goodwin’s Sussex county cricket benefit.
A casual Christmas catch-up in December resulted in a request by Goodwin for Gilchrist to come to Bunbury for a coaching, autograph signing and social evening as a fundraiser for Colts Cricket Club and junior cricket.
“That was basically one of the very few free days Gilly has in his tight schedule and I was thrilled when he agreed to come to Bunbury for the fundraising barbecue at the Sanctuary Golf resort, ” Goodwin said.
Club sponsor Barr and Standley will fly Gilchrist from Perth for the fundraiser it hopes will help Colts’ club and junior cricket to prosper in Bunbury.
Invitations have been sent to the Bunbury Junior Cricket Association for players to attend a talk and autograph signing after an exclusive coaching session of a posse of the club’s top junior prospects.
