Like father, like son for cricket's Goodwin jnr

Bunbury Herald

Hot on the heels of new Colts captain Clayton Caltsounis arriving back in Bunbury after a successful season with Sussex league club Ifield comes more kudos for Bunbury’s multiple premiership winning club.

In a case of “like father, like son” former Western Warriors, Sussex and Zimbabwe Test star, Colts coach Murray Goodwin and his 11-year-old son Jayden both arrived back home in Australia with decorations.

After 12 stellar seasons and a swag of premierships with English County Sussex, Goodwin, 40, was delisted after a poor summer last year and duly signed with Welsh County Glamorgan where he completed a successful season with more than 1300 First Class runs at 54.00.

He was named Cricketer-ofthe-Year.

His son, Jayden, who also represented Sussex last season, had to fight his way into the Glamorgan County juniors, but rose to be named captain of Wales Under-11s which finished the season in second place behind Durham.

Jayden himself scored a remarkable 842 runs at more than 50 including centuries against Kent and Essex, 93 against Berkshire and 92 not out against Yorkshire and took 22 wickets. He said his most satisfying return was against his old team at Sussex where he scored 72 and took 4-16 off eight overs with his leg spinners.

Caltsounis and the Goodwins are not the only champions returning to Colts Cricket Club.

Michael Norris who declined to return to Australia last season is another decorated cricketer to return to Colts with the BDCA Cricketer-of-the-Year recipient in 2009-2010.
