An irresistible half-hour of football helped Busselton bounce back into form during their 95-point win over Donnybrook at VC Mitchell Park on Saturday.

The Magpies kicked 13 unanswered goals either side of half-time en route to their 23.11 (149) to 8.6 (54) win.

Seeking a response to their humbling by South Bunbury, it was a slow start by Busselton as they struggled to find fluency and only led by a point midway through the second quarter.

Busselton began to get first usage out of the ruck and were strongly led by Dan McGinlay and Jordan Eastwell, who both asserted themselves in clearance situations.

They were also well served by Kyle Hams who provided his usual drive and composure from half-back, while a host of forwards contributed to their scoring power.

Set shot goals from Nathan Bradbury and McGinlay helped start the damaging burst.

An easy goal to Brent Snook, who kicked five for the game, extended the lead before Aidan Fraser and Jackson Arbon both hit the scoreboard.

The Magpies kicked the last seven goals of the half to lead by 44 points at the main break and continued where they left off.

McGinlay kicked the best of their six straight goals after half-time, accelerating away after a handball receive before wheeling around to finish stylishly.

Donnybrook’s afternoon was summed up by a dreadful Simon Parry miss in the third quarter.

Running into goal he had the choice of taking the shot himself or handballing to an open player in the square but ultimately sprayed his easy shot wide of the sticks.

The Dons eventually stopped the rot through Jaymin O’Dine Khan, who kicked a goal after the home side won the centre clearance immediately following Busselton’s 13th straight major.

His performance was one of the few positives for Donnybrook.

The forward ended the day with five goals, including two in the first quarter while the match was still a contest.

An Eastwell shot just before the siren bounced wide, which could have given the Magpies a 100 point win, but it was merely a blip on an effective and clinical Busselton performance.
