Management role presents new challenges

Bunbury Herald

Fresh challenges are what former Bunbury Fire and Rescue Service station officer Peter Stewart is looking forward to after starting his new role.

Mr Stewart is the first person to act in the Fire and Emergency Services Authority district manager role, which will fill gaps in the South West region.

Prior to accepting this position Mr Stewart worked for the Bunbury Fire and Rescue Service for 14 years.

He began as the station officer-in-charge in 1998 and then became a station officer in 2000.

‘‘I guess it’s just serving and helping the public that kept me in it,’’ Mr Stewart said.

‘‘There’s a real sense of achievement when you help someone.

‘‘Also there’s a bit of a thrill in it all.’’

Mr Stewart said he was looking forward to the new challenges his job would bring.

‘‘As much as I loved being out on the truck I decided it was time for a change,’’ he said.

‘‘I like that I can work closely with the community and local governments.’’

Outside of work, Mr Stewart enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wife, Dianne, and sons, Brodie, 18, and Reilly, 17.

‘‘Both of my sons are musicians so I generally keep pretty busy with them,’’ he said.

‘‘I certainly plan to stay in the South West because really what’s not to love?

‘‘The lifestyle is something I truly love.’’
