Mates ride in honour of Jack
Jack Gerrard’s motocross bike, emblazoned with his race number 156, rode once again on Saturday.
It led out a group of about 100 riders who had gathered at Shrubland Park in Bunbury to honour the 17-year-old who died last month.
His bike was ridden by friend and fellow motocross competitor Jayden Rikers, who organised the memorial day.
At 1.56pm, all of the riders, many who had come from across regional WA, including Mr Gerrard’s former home of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, took to the dirt track for a lap of honour.
During the day Jack’s bike, his helmet, jumper and race goggles, were displayed at the side of the track as a tribute.
Mr Rikers said he was overwhelmed by the response by many of Jack’s friends and members of the tight-knit motocross community.
“I reckon Jack would have a big grin on his face watching us have a ride for him, ” he said.
Jack was injured falling from the back of a ute driven in Gnangara, at about 9pm on Christmas Day. He later died in hospital.
