Housing Minister Colin Holt says the State Government is focused on providing more homes for people on the public housing priority waiting list.

Mr Holt last week announced $560 million to provide for about 1000 more low-cost rentals for seniors and families with children.

He said the Government had provided thousands of affordable houses across WA but would now focus on the Department of Housing's priority waitlist.

On Friday, Mr Holt officially opened 20 affordable houses in a complex at Carey Park, built by Access Housing and Coastline Homes.

He defended the State Government's record on providing budget housing.

"In the last four years, we have been the fastest growing State - at some points we have had 1500 rock up to the State every week," he said.

The Carey Park development was approved as part of the National Rental Affordability Scheme.

The land was transferred to Access Housing and Coastline Homes and subdivided before construction began last year.

Tenants who are mostly on low to medium incomes have been living in the homes since January.

Access Housing chief executive officer Garry Ellender said there was a mixture of tenants because half of the homes were owned by private investors.

Access Housing rents the other 10 homes to tenants at a subsided rate.
